Faith Formation & Pastoral Services Center
The Faith Formation Center, serving both St. John and St. Joseph Parishes,
offers the following grief support and pastoral services.
Ministry to the Homebound
and Nursing Home Residents
The Faith Formation and Pastoral Services Center coordinates the
effort of regularly bringing Communion to both the homebound and
nursing home residents in the Ishpeming area. A number of volunteers
visit Catholic residents at both the Mather and Valente Nursing
Homes, as well as those people who are homebound. If you or someone
you know is in need of this ministry, please call either your parish
or the Faith Formation Center to be added to the schedule.
Our parish pastors, along with a group of volunteers, also offer Mass at the Valente and Mather nursing homes in Ishpeming on the first Friday of each month and at the Teal Lake Assisted Living Center in Negaunee on the second Tuesday of each month. A social
normally follows the Mass.
Annually, a Mass for the Anointing of the Sick is held at the
parish, followed by a soup luncheon. Anyone in need of healing
is encouraged to participate in this community celebration, usually
held in the fall.
Grief Support Group
The death of a loved one is one of life's most painful experiences.
It can be a struggle wih intense emotions including anger, depression
and guilt. Having someone to lean on during these times can help
with the hardship. Sharing beloved memories of the deceased helps.
The Grief Support Group of Ishpeming comes together to share and
pray on a Wednesday evening once each month at 7 pm in the
Father Ouellette Activity room at St. Joseph's Church. Anyone grieving
the loss of a loved one is welcome to attend. If you have any questions
or would like to talk to someone now, please call Sister Margey Schmelzle at 376-8475. Please remember, you are not alone.
